Dow begins restart process of Texas olefins unit

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Dow Chemical has begun the restart process of its Freeport LHC-8 cracker in Texas, the company said on Friday in a filing with state regulators.

The 998,000 tonne/year unit was shut down on 5 February due to high-pressure steam header repairs at the site.

Emissions associated with the start-up process were expected to last until 23 February, Dow said in the filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

Dow has a second cracker in Freeport, LHC-7, with an ethylene capacity of 612,000 tonnes/year.

That unit remained operational, the company said.
