EU December new orders drop 23.3%, chems down 12.1%

LONDON (ICIS news)--Industrial new orders in the EU decreased by 23.3% in December year on year, while orders for chemicals dropped by 12.1%, official statistics agency Eurostat said on Tuesday.

In the 15-member eurozone (Slovakia became the sixteenth member of the eurozone on 1 January 2009), industrial new orders in December fell 22.3%, while chemicals orders were down 12.5%.

Compared with the previous month, December chemicals orders were down by 5.3% in the 27-member EU and by 4.3% in the eurozone.

Total industrial new orders decreased by 6.4% in the EU and 5.2% in the eurozone month on month.
