LONDON (ICIS news)--Cognis has sold its botanical extracts business to France's Burgundy Botanical Extracts for an undisclosed sum, the German specialty chemicals company said on Monday.

With annual sales of about €9m ($11m), the business operates two sites in Spain, focusing on the production of botanical extracts for pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements and cosmetics.

Under the agreement, Cognis would continue production and distribution of certain products for the cosmetics industry and retain ownership of its Plantalin range – selective plant extracts for functional food and beverage applications.

Burgundy would distribute this range to the pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements industry in the EU.
