SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan-based Chimei-Asahi plans to shut its 65,000 tonnes/year No 1 polycarbonate (PC) unit at Jen Te in Tainan county for a month-long annual turnaround in July-August, a company source said on Wednesday.

The producer operates two units at the same site.

Its 75,000 tonnes/year No 2 unit was taken off line in October last year for maintenance that was supposed to last only a month.  The unit had resumed production only in February owing to weak market conditions.

“We finally restarted our No 2 unit in mid-February but on-spec material was only available recently,” the source said in Mandarin.

“Both units are currently running at full rates,” the source added.

Chimei-Asahi is a 90:10 joint venture of Taiwan's Chi Mei Corp and Japan's Asahi Kasei Chemicals.
