Iraq DAP tender is country’s first in four years

LONDON (ICIS news)--Iraq’s State Company for Agricultural Supplies will close a tender for 50,000 tonnes of phosphate fertilizer on 16 March, following four years in which the country imported no product due to the military situation, producer sources confirmed on Wednesday.

Under the terms of the tender for diammonium phosphate (DAP), producers were invited to make formal presentations.

Only offers from producers would be accepted on a CFR (cost and freight) basis to the port of Umm Qasr. This would exclude fertilizer traders from participating.

The Ministry of Agriculture was not bound to accept the lowest prices offered.

The terms of the tender would appear to put Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) in prime position to supply the tonnes and discussions were reported to be ongoing, sources said.

JPMC had previously supplied product over the border via trucks but this stopped in 2005 when the safety of the convoys could not be guaranteed.
