SUZHOU, CHINA (ICIS news)--China’s Jiangsu Shenghong Chemical Fiber remains interested to build or operate a purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant near its base in Wujiang but it has yet to secure a government approval on this undertaking, company sources said on Monday.

“The plans had been in place for many years. We would still want to have a PTA plant of our own,” said one of the sources.

The company has been planning to build a 600,000 tonne/year PTA facility at Wujiang in China’s eastern province of Jiangsu since 2003.

“Even if we don’t build one on our own, we could take over an existing plant if there’s an opportunity. We’re also interested to join other companies interested in such a project,” one of the sources said.

Jiangsu Shenghong remains “on the lookout for all forms of opportunities, and have not ruled out anything at this stage,” said another source.

Shenghong is one of the biggest producers of polyester filament yarns in China, with 600,000 tonnes/year in total polycondensation capacity.
