SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp (FCFC) has restarted its second phenol-acetone unit in Mailiao early this week to boost production in view of increased demand from its downstream BPA plants, a company official said on Friday.

The company’s two phenol-acetone units with a combined production capacity of 400,000 tonnes/year for phenol and  250,000 tonnes/year for acetone in Mailiao were taken off line in mid-January due to weak market conditions.

The first unit resumed operation in early February and has been running at full capacity.

“We would gradually ramp up production. Operating rates at our units currently averaged above 70%,” said the official.
