HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US exports of ethyl acetate (etac) in January totalled 2,519 tonnes (2,771 tons), plunging 48% from 4,832 tonnes in the same month of 2008, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) said on Friday.
The drop reflects the impact of the global recession on etac's main niche markets, which include personal care and household products such as ink and nail polish.
January exports sank almost 66% from 7,319 tonnes in December 2008, according to the data.
US Gulf coast export FOB (free on board) prices were $1,102-1,190/tonne (€860-928/tonne) over the past month, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
