HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US polycarbonate (PC) exports in January were 16,978 tonnes, or 51% lower than the 34,360 tonnes shipped in the same month a year before, according to data the US International Trade Commission (ITC) released on Friday.

Exports in the month were 54% more than 11,026 shipped in December, the ITC said. Buying from Asia plunged, with shipments to China totaling 4,938 tonnes, down 36% from January 2008. Shipments to South Korea fell 61% to 1,349 tonnes in the same period.

US PC producers have seen demand for their product dwindle as the global automotive and construction markets continue to stagnate.

Global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing assessed GP moulding PC prices at $2,425-2,646/tonne (€1,892-2,064/tonne) DEL (delivered) on 11 March, down from $2,646-2,866/tonne on 14 January.

US PC manufacturers include Dow Chemical, Bayer Material Science and SABIC Innovative Plastics.
