SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--China’s Hualian Sunshine Petrochemical has delayed restart of its third pure terephthalic acid (PTA) line at Shaoxing due to feedstock shortage and mechanical problems, company officials said on Friday.

The company, with two PTA lines of 600,000 tonnes/year each and an Eastman proprietary terephthalic acid (EPTA) unit of the same capacity, said in February it will run all the three lines at 80-90% of nameplate capacity by early March.

“Due to many reasons, we’d now aim to run all three lines by early April,” one senior official said.

The company is currently running its EPTA and one of its two PTA units at just above 90% of nameplate capacity.

A shortage of feedstock paraxylene and some mechanical issues were delaying the three lines to be run simultaneously, an official said.

Hualian Sunshine is one of the largest PTA suppliers in China and was formerly owned by China Union Development Group, Jiabaili Textile, Zhanwang Enterprise and the Huaxi Group.

Polyester giant Zhejiang Yuan Dong is managing the company now with funds partially provided by the Shaoxing municipal government. The breakup of the shareholding is not known.
