HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Westlake Chemical has suspended work on a proposed polyethylene (PE) and ethylene (C2) complex in Trinidad and Tobago, a spokesman said on Friday.

However, Westlake will continue to hold discussions with the Trinidad government, said David Hansen, spokesman.

Last year, CEO Albert Chao said rising capital costs were a major constraint for the project.

Westlake signed an agreement in 2006 with Trinidad and Tobago to build a 570,000 tonne/year ethylene plant and similar-sized PE facilities.
