Japan’s February naphtha imports for C2 production fall 4%

TOKYO (ICIS news)--Japan’s imports of naphtha for ethylene production in February fell 3.9% from the previous month to 752,976 tonnes, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) said on Thursday.

The country’s production of ethylene in February decreased 23.7% to 463,200 tonnes compared with the same time the previous year, METI said.

The total cost of naphtha imports in February was $288.2m (€213.3m), up from $267.6m in January, the ministry said.

The price of naphtha was $382.8/tonne in February, a 12.1% increase from $341.4/tonne in January, according to METI.

The output of most other chemicals, except for vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), also declined, according to an earlier report by ICIS news.
