Japan’s Chisso eyes oxo-alcohol turnaround in May

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Chisso Corp is scheduled to shut down its oxo-alcohol unit, located at Chiba, Japan, in May for an annual turnaround, market sources said on Tuesday.

The plant, which has a capacity of 75,000 tonnes/year of 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) and 25,000 tonnes/year of n-butanol (NBA), will be taken offline for a period of 30 days.

Another major Japanese producer, Mitsubishi Chemical, was also due to be take its 268,000 tonne/year oxo-alcohols unit located at Mizushima offline for a scheduled shutdown in May, potentially resulting in a very tight supply situation in Japan and the rest of northeast Asia, sources added.
