Eka said the plant’s Nordic location was uneconomical and that it would relocate its sodium chlorate capacity closer to the growth areas like southern and eastern Europe.
The current market for sodium chlorate, which is used in paper and pulp bleaching, was highly unpredictable, said Eka, adding that it had not yet decided where a new plant would be located.
“Employees and unions have been informed about the restructuring and a support plan created for the Norwegian organisation will now be implemented,” the company said in a statement.
