LONDON (ICIS news)--Linde has won a contract with Sinopec to build industrial gas plants for the Chinese producer’s vinyls subsidiary in Chongqing, the company said on Monday.

Linde’s China-based business, Linde Gas (Hong Kong), would form a 50:50 joint venture with Sinopec Sichuan Vinylon Works (SVW) by June 2009, Linde said.

The partners planned to make an initial investment of €50m ($68m) in the Chongqing site, which would include the construction of an air-separation plant producing 1,500 tonnes/day of oxygen.

The facility would be built by 2011 and supply SVW’s new 300,000 tonne/year vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) plant.

In the long term, Linde said it also planned to expand its capacity of air gases and build synthetic gas plants to meet the overall demand for gases for SVW and associated companies.
