SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--China’s largest methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) producer Jilin Chemical is currently running one of its two 15,000 tonne/year lines in Jilin at below 40% of capacity due to high feedstock acetone costs and poor demand, a company official said on Tuesday.

It was likely to maintain this operating rate for the whole of April, he said,.

The company has no plans to restart its other 15,000 tonne/year line, which had been off line since September 2008.

Separately, traders said Ningbo Oceanking Chemical had also shut its 15,000 tonne/year MIBK plant in Ningbo in March after briefly running the unit for half a month due to poor economics. Company officials were not available for comment.
