HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US February exports of butyl acetate (butac) were flat, down about 2% to 4,515 tonnes compared with 4,584 tonnes in the same month a year ago, according to data the US International Trade Commission (ITC) released on Thursday.
February butac exports zoomed up more than 156% from only 1,761 tonnes in January, the ITC said. Mexico, India and Brazil were the top three export destinations, accounting for 2,851 tonnes, or more than 63% of total shipments.
US butac exports declined 27% in the first two months this year, totalling 6,276 tonnes, compared with 8,626 tonnes in the same period of 2008.
US Gulf coast export prices for butac ranged from 60-64 cents/lb ($1,323-1,411/tonne or €1,005-1,072/tonne) over the past month, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing.
Major US butac producers include Dow Chemical, Eastman Chemical and Oxea Group.
