Invista plans start-up of Texas ADN plant by weekend

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Invista expects to restart its Victoria adiponitrile (ADN) plant in Texas by the end of the week, barring unanticipated setbacks in final start-up procedures, a company spokesperson said on Thursday.

The plant was shut down in mid-March due to a fire in an electrical breaker cabinet.

Repairs at the 375,000 tonne/year unit progressed faster than initially expected, the spokesperson said.

Invista also operates an ADN plant in Orange, Texas, with 240,000 tonnes/year of capacity.

That unit has been off line since Hurricane Ike hit Texas in September 2008.

Invista is a major consumer of butadiene (BD).

The company uses BD to produce ADN, which in turn is used as a feedstock in the production of nylon 6,6.
