SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Continental Solvindo shut its 25,000 tonne/year butyl acetate (butac) plant in Merak, Indonesia this week as expected, due to lack of feedstock acetic acid, a company official said on Thursday.

“The arrival of our acetic acid cargo has been delayed to the end of the month and as a result we have taken the plant off line,” the official said.

The delay in shipment was caused by production issues at a regional acetic acid plant, he said.

Operating rates at the butyl acetate unit were consequently halved to around 50% of capacity for April, he added.

Major butyl acetate producers in Asia include Celanese, Dow Optimal Chemicals, Jiangmen Handsome Chemical Development, Jiangyin Baichuan Chemical Industrial Co Ltd and Korea Alcohol Industrial.
