LONDON (ICIS news)--LyondellBasell plans to expand its polyolefins supply network in Turkey by opening additional distribution facilities throughout the country, the company said on Monday.

The network expansion, which has been scheduled to start in July and be completed by September, would include new warehouse facilities at Gaziantep and on the European and Asian sides of Istanbul, LyondellBasell said.

This would complement existing distribution centres in Mersin, in southern Turkey, and Thessaloniki, Greece, which supplies customers in central and southern Europe, the company said.

“Our network of distribution platforms will effectively assist customers in meeting their product needs in a timely manner,” said Jean Gadbois, LyondellBasell’s vice president of supply chain for Europe, Asia and international.

“Given the extreme volatility of today’s markets, this flexibility will be highly beneficial to customers in the region,” he said in a statement.

The extended network would provide a continuous supply of polypropylene and polyethylene from assets in Europe as well as from LyondellBasell’s joint ventures in Saudi Arabia, the company said.

Turkey imports almost 2m tonnes/year of polyolefins, according to Belkis Tamakan, general manager of LyondellBasell’s operations in the country.
