Neste Oil starts work on Rotterdam renewable diesel plant

LONDON (ICIS news)--Neste Oil has started building an 800,000 tonne/year renewable diesel plant at the Port of Rotterdam which will be the largest in Europe once completed, the company said on Tuesday.

"With this plant in the Netherlands, Neste Oil will become the leading renewable diesel producer supplying Europe from the Netherlands,” CEO Matti Lievonen said in a statement.

The €670m ($944m) facility was due to be completed in 2011 and would create more than 100 jobs, the company said.

Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb welcomed the investment, saying it would further strengthen the harbour’s position as the leading biofuels hub in Europe.
