SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--South Korea’s Samsung Petrochemical has revised the shutdown plan for its purified terephthalic acid (PTA) units in June and will now idle only one line instead of two, company sources said late on Thursday.

The 450,000 tonne/year No 2 unit at Ulsan would be shut in mid-June for around ten days of maintenance, the source said.

The company had said in April that it would shut its No 2 line for 10 days and its 700,000 tonne/year No 4 facility at Daesan for the same duration in June.

“We’d not decided if we’d have further shutdowns for June, or in July, as a lot would depend on the [market conditions],” one of the sources said.

Samsung, with a total nameplate capacity of 1.8m tonnes/year, is the largest PTA producer in Korea. It also has two units of 200,000 and 450,000 tonnes/year at Ulsan.
