SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Saudi International Petrochemical Co (Sipchem) is on schedule to start up its Al-Jubail acetyls project by the end of July, a company official said over the weekend.
“Carbon monoxide (CO) plant feed gas was introduced in May and it is on start up mode now,” said the official in an e-mail on Saturday.
The fully integrated acetyls complex includes a 420,000 tonne/year acetic acid plant, a 330,000 tonne/year vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) plant and a 250,000 tonne/year ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA)/low density polyethylene (LDPE) swing line. The EVA/LDPE plant is targeted to come on stream in 2012.
“The acetic acid plant just started commissioning activities during the last two weeks. The start up is anticipated toward end of July [or] early August depending on how well the commissioning activities go,” he said.
The VAM plant is expected to start up six weeks after the acetic acid plant comes on stream, he added.
