BP fined $650,000, Dow $166,465 for Texas environmental violations

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) fined the North American operations of BP $650,000 (€461,500) and US major Dow Chemical $166,465 for pollution violations at facilities in Texas, the commission said on Friday.

The fine against BP covered 10 waste violations at a company facility in Galveston County, Texas, from July to December 2007, according to the TCEQ.

The fine against Dow was for six air violations at a facility in Brazoria County, Texas, from June 2005 to March 2007, the TCEQ said.

Neither company immediately responded to requests for comment.

The cases were among the $1.80m in fines that the TCEQ announced on Friday against 123 companies, cities and other groups for violations of state environmental regulations.
