SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical plans to restart two of its benzene lines in July and August after scheduled maintenance shutdowns, a company source said on Thursday.
The company shut its No 2 aromatics unit, which produces 370,000 tonnes/year of benzene, in Kashima in late June and planned to restart it in mid-August, the source said.
The producer also plans to restart its aromatics facility in Mizushima in late July. The line, which produces 210,000 tonnes/year of benzene, was shut in early June for maintenance, the source added.
Mitsubishi was operating its No 1 unit in Kashima at full rate after restarting it in late June. The facility, which produces about 200,000 tonnes/year of benzene, was taken off line for regular maintenance in early May.
Mitsubishi uses benzene mainly for its downstream styrene monomer (SM) and phenol units, the source said.
