India mulls new anti-dumping duty on TiO2 imports from China

NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--India may levy a higher anti-dumping duty (ADD) on imports of anatase-grade titanium dioxide (TiO2) from China, a government official said on Wednesday.

India’s anti-dumping authority (ADA) advised the government to impose a reference price (RP)-based ADD after it completed a sunset review of the existing levy on 3 July. The ADD is calculated as the difference between the RP and the value of imports at Indian ports, the official said.

The ADA has recommended a RP of $1,735/tonne, compared with the existing RP of $1,227/tonne.

The validity of the existing RP-based ADD will expire on 10 July.

The official did not specify the date on which the new definitive five-year ADD would be applied.

Titanium dioxide is used in the manufacture of paints, plastics, paper, ink and rubber.
