HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US acrylonitrile (ACN) exports in May were 60,070 tonnes, 6% lower than the same month a year before, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) said on Friday.
Exports in the month were 4% more than the 57,808 tonnes exported in April.
Between January and May 2009, the US shipped 207,325 tonnes of ACN, down 36% from 322,641 tonnes during the same period of 2008, the ITC said.
Sales to China increased significantly in May, to 21,606 tonnes from 4,000 tonnes in the same month the year before. But exports to other countries, including, Egypt, India and Turkey, stopped completely during the month.
Global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing assessed US ACN spot prices at $1,100-1,120/tonne (€781-795/tonne) in July, compared with $980-1,000/tonne on 8 May.
US ACN producers include Cytec, INEOS, Lucite and Solutia.
