PRAGUE (ICIS news)--Turkey’s largest petrochemical producer, Petkim, has linked up with Istanbul-based chemical and power firm Akkok to assess the potential for cooperation in the production of acrylonitrile (ACN), the former said on Monday.

The two firms signed a memorandum of understanding that could lead to the establishment of capacity for ACN — a component of various plastics and synthetic rubbers — production and for converting byproducts into other chemicals, Petkim added.

Petkim is majority owned by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan, Turkish oil and petrochemical group Turcas and Saudi Arabia-based developer Injaz Projects.

Akkok owns Turkish chemicals company Aksa Akrilik and the third-largest non-state Turkish power producer, AK Enerji.
