DuPont Teijin unites PET film at one US unit, shuts another

NEW YORK (ICIS news)--DuPont Teijin Films (DTF) is consolidating its US-based polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film production to one location, and will shutter its other plant, the company said on Wednesday.

PET film production will be centred at the Hopewell plant in Virginia, while the Florence facility in South Carolina will be shut down in late 2010 with the loss of 210 jobs.

Some positions from Florence will be relocated to Hopewell, the company said in a statement.

It did not give capacity figures for either site or detail sales figures from PET films.

“The consolidation of PET film operations into our Hopewell facility completes our strategic plan to address structural changes in our industry, and positions us for solid growth in our key markets,” said Jean-Philippe Azoulay, president of DTF Americas.

“The capability and productivity of the Hopewell site are well suited to developments in electronics, medical and industrial markets, as well as emerging green technology applications,” Azoulay added.

DuPont Teijin Films is a 50-50 joint venture between US-based DuPont and Japan-based Teijin.
