Southern Chemical nominates 8-cent hike for US August methanol

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Southern Chemical Corporation (SCC) on Wednesday nominated its North American methanol contract barge price at 72 cents/gal ($239/tonne, €170/tonne) FOB (free on board) US Gulf coast (USG), an 8-cent increase from July.

The increase was expected, market players said.

The announcement now means equal contract rates from the two biggest marketers of methanol in the US, Houston-based SCC and Vancouver, Canada-based Methanex.

Methanex posted its August contract rate at 72 cents/gal on Tuesday.
