LONDON (ICIS news)--European oil major BP said on Friday that its refinery in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, is offline due to a power outage.

“The power to the refinery is externally supplied and there was an outage at around six o’clock [Friday morning]. All processing units were shut down safely and without incident,” said Robert Wine, a spokesman for BP.

“There will be an investigation, and we hope to get the refinery started as soon as possible. I’m not sure, but we hope it will be later [on Friday],” he added.

The Rotterdam refinery has the capacity to process 386,000 bbl of crude oil per day. BP obtained full ownership after buying Chevron’s share in March 2007.
