LONDON (ICIS news)--Yuzhny ammonia shipments reached 118,258 tonnes in July, up 31,000 tonnes from the 86,909 tonnes exported in the previous month, customs data showed on Tuesday.

Exports of Russian ammonia totalled 100,277 tonnes, up from 86,909 tonnes in June, while Ukrainian shipments reached 17,981 tonnes, up from zero the previous month.

Turkey was the main destination for Yuzhny ammonia in July, with 42,391 tonnes being shipped there, compared with just 9,500 tonnes during June.

Other export destinations last month were the US (39,893 tonnes), Tunisia (26,001 tonnes) and Israel (9,974 tonnes).

Shipments in July 2008 from the Black Sea port totalled 255,965 tonnes.

Yuzhny ammonia exports had suffered from low international prices over recent months. However, demand had picked up and market expectations were that August shipments would be higher than July's.

Some 144,000 tonnes were already lined up to load from Yuzhny during August, sources said.

Yuzhny is a major trading port in the Black Sea, while the Ukraine and Russia are major ammonia trade sources in the world owing to large natural gas reserves.
