HOUSTON (ICIS news)--Houston-based Univation Technologies has started building a polyethylene (PE) catalyst facility in China and plans to begin production in 2011, the company said on Wednesday.
The new facility in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu province, will produce catalysts used in the production of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE).
The cost of the facility was not disclosed.
“Our new UCAT J Catalyst facility creates a solution that brings this high value catalyst closer to our customers,” said Univation president Kenneth Glover in a press release.
The Univation plant will support more than 20 PE plants in China, either currently operating or under construction, that use the UNIPOL gas-phase PE process technology, the company said.
The plant will be able to expand to accommodate growing demand for UCAT J catalysts, officials said.
Dow Chemical licensed its UNIPOL and UCAT technologies for use by Univation, which is a joint venture between Dow and ExxonMobil.
