SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Thailand’s PTT Chemical plans to start trial production at its new linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) plant and at its new ethane cracker, both located at Mab Ta Phut, in October, a company source said on Tuesday.
The source didn’t know what delayed trial production at the 400,000 tonne/year LLDPE unit, originally scheduled for August-September and why the 1m tonne/year new cracker was starting up around one month ahead of schedule.
The firm would have extra ethylene for the LLDPE trial runs as its existing 250,000 tonnes/year high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant would be shut from early October to mid November for maintenance, the source said.
The HDPE unit’s capacity would be expanded to 300,000 tonnes/year during the turnaround, the source added.
The company’s new 250,000 tonne/year HDPE plant at the same site, which would be operated by its wholly owned subsidiary Bangkok Polyethylene, was scheduled to start trial production in mid November, the source said. For more on PE visit ICIS chemical intelligence
