Iran’s Mehr Petrochemical to restart HDPE unit on 29 Aug

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Iran’s Mehr Petrochemical expects to restart its new 300,000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant at Assaluyeh on 29 August following an unplanned shutdown, a source close to the company said on Thursday.

“The plant had to be shut down within weeks of its start-up due to problems at the central utilities unit at Assaluyeh,” the source said.

The plant achieved commercial production in July this year.

The source said another reason for the outage was the maintenance shutdown at Jam Petrochemical’s 1.32m tonne/year cracker, which supplies ethylene feedstock to Mehr.

The cracker was restarted on 21 August.

The Mehr HDPE plant is a joint venture between Thailand’s PTT Chemical and Siam Cement, Iran's National Petrochemical Co (NPC) and Japan’s Itochu Corp.
