HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US biodiesel production in May was down by 37% from the same month the year before, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Friday.
The drop, to 39m gal (148m litres) from a revised 62m gal in May 2008, illustrated how much of a struggle the industry had in finding customers after the EU slammed the door on US biodiesel imports in March.
US biodiesel production in May was essentially flat from the 38m gal produced the month before, the EIA said.
The agency also revised its information on the amount of biodiesel refined in 2008, saying production for the year was 776m gal, up by 13.6% from its original estimate of 683m gal.
