HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US ethanol demand in June totalled 721,000 bbl/day, a 14% increase from 633,000 bbl/day in the same month of 2008, the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) said on Tuesday.
Ethanol consumption in June was also up by a slight 1% from 713,000 bbl/day in May, the association said.
The RFA attributed the increases to growth in demand for renewable alternatives to gasoline.
However, the increase in ethanol consumption was outpaced by a larger jump in production.
US fuel ethanol production in June rose by 3.9% from May to 694,000 bbl/day, according to the latest figures from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).
