SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwanese producer Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp (FCFC) shut its phenol-acetone units on 1 September due to shortage of feedstock benzene, a company official said on Friday.

The plant would remain off line until 18-19 September, the source said, adding that the unscheduled shutdown was due to problems in obtaining feedstock benzene from its upstream aromatics units, the source added.

FCFC, the largest phenol-acetone producer in Taiwan, operates two lines in Mailiao with a combined capacity of 400,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 250,000 tonnes/year of acetone.

Other key phenol-acetone producers in Taiwan include Chang Chun Plastics  and Taiwan Prosperity Chemical Corp.
