TORONTO (ICIS news)--UK manufacturing output increased 0.9% in July from June, with chemicals and plastics among the sectors with the highest increases, the country’s Office for National Statistics said on Tuesday.

Production of chemicals and man-made fibres rose 3.3% from June while the plastics and rubber producing sector recorded a 3.4% increase.

However, the monthly data can be highly volatile, the office said.

Rubber and plastic products were up 3.9% from the previous three months while chemicals and man-made fibres fell 0.7%.

Compared with the same three months a year ago, UK manufacturing is down 11.4%.

Earlier on Tuesday, Germany’s economics ministry reported that overall production in Europe’s largest economy fell 0.9% in July, from June, with industrial production down 0.5% and building and construction down 2.3%.
