MOVES: Dow Chemical appoints Wildi to key position in Kuwait

TORONTO (ICIS news)--Dow Chemical has appointed Markus Wildi to the newly created position of vice president of corporate development in Kuwait, the US-based international chemicals major said on Friday.

The appointment of Wildi, who was formerly president of Dow Europe, reinforced the company's commitment to its investments in Kuwait, it said.

Dow suffered a severe setback in Kuwait at the end of 2008 when Kuwait’s Petrochemicals Industries Company unexpectedly pulled out of the planned K-Dow Petrochemicals joint venture and thus nearly undermined Dow's acquisition of Rohm and Haas.

Wildi would report to Dow CEO Andrew Liveris and represent the office of the chief executive in Kuwait, the company said.

"Markus has demonstrated strong business leadership throughout his career and has done a great job in creating strong partner relationships between business and government," said Liveris.

"This role is critically important and Markus is the right person to establish a local presence and define a path forward for Dow in Kuwait," he added.
