TOKYO (ICIS news)--Marubeni Corp intends to expand its energy business and relationship with Qatar Petroleum following the recent start-up of a joint venture condensate refinery in Qatar, the Japanese conglomerate said in a statement on Monday.
The refinery, built at Ras Laffan Industrial city, started commercial production on 23 September, according to Marubeni.

The company did not provide further details about how it intends to expand its energy business with Qatar Petroleum.
Qatar Petroleum has the majority stake of 51% in the Laffan refinery, with the remaining shares held by companies ExxonMobil (10%), Total (10%), Idemitsu Kosan (10%), Cosmo Oil (10%) and Mitsui & Co (4.5%).
The refinery will have a processing capacity of 146,000 barrels per stream day (bpsd) and a production capacity of 61,000 bpsd of naphtha; 52,000 bpsd of kerojet; 24,000 bpsd of gasoil; and 9,000 bpsd of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Previously, Marubeni said that it was considering building a plant to produce propylene in an oil-rich country, and that the unit could be downstream of the Laffan refinery.
