SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwan’s Ming Dih Group shut its expandable polystyrene (EPS) plant in China on Thursday for maintenance, a company source said on Friday.

The 120,000 tonne/year unit at Zhong Shan in southern China would be off line up to 6 October, the source said.

The company decided to time the plant's maintenance turnaround  during China's National Day holidays, he added. The Chinese market is closed for holidays from 1-8 October.

EPS operating rates in China were estimated at around 60% this week but were expected to fall below 50% next week during the holidays, market sources said.

Ming Dih also operates a 166,000 tonne/year EPS unit in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and a 30,000 tonne/year facility in Bangkok, Thailand.
