BERLIN (ICIS news)--PTT Chemical's new 1m tonne/year ethane cracker will start up this year as planned as it does not appear on a list of projects on which work was stopped by a Thai court, a company executive said on Tuesday.

“Sometime next month or towards the end of the year... the cracker will start up,” said the company’s executive vice president for marketing and commercial and supply chain governance, Dhanes Charoensupaya, on the sidelines of the 43rd European Petrochemical Association (EPCA) meeting.

“It is undergoing a commissioning process,” he added.

There had been concerns that the cracker could be delayed because of an order last month from Thailand’s Central Administrative Court temporarily halting the construction of 76 projects at Mab Ta Phut, the petrochemicals hub of the country, for environmental reasons.

Charoensupaya dismissed those concerns as unfounded.

“It will have an indirect impact, not a direct impact on the project,” he added.

The court's decision is being appealed against by the affected companies with the help of Thailand’s government.
