SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Taiwanese Formosa Chemical and Fibre Corp (FCFC) plans to shut its No 2 aromatics line in Mailiao from mid October up to the end of November for maintenance, a company source said on Wednesday.

The No 2 line can produce 470,000 tonnes/year of benzene and up to 580,000 tonnes/year of paraxylene (PX).

FCFC's No 1 line at the same site, which has a 270,000 tonne/year PX capacity and a 150,000 tonne/year benzene capacity, is currently running at close to full capacity, the source said.

The company has a third aromatics line that produces 470,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 700,000 tonnes/year of PX in Mailiao. The unit was running at half its capacity after an outage on 18 August.

The No 1 and No 3 would continue to operate at current rates when the No 2 line is taken off line, the source said.

In December, all three lines would be running at full capacity, he added.
