SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Mitsui Chemicals is running its 33,000 tonne/year isopropanol (IPA) plant in Osaka, Japan, at 100% after restarting the unit on 1 October following an unplanned shutdown from 19-30 September, a company official said on Friday.
The smallest of Japan’s three IPA producers, however, planned to take the facility off line for one week starting 1 November. This would be the fifth time that Mitsui is shutting the plant this year due to poor economics and to reduce inventories, the official added.
Nippon Oil and Tokuyama are the other two IPA producers in Japan.
IPA was traded lower at $960-980/tonne (€652.80-666.40) CFR (cost and freight) northeast Asia last week, facing pressure from declines in feedstock propylene values, according to global chemical market intelligence service ICIS pricing .
($1 = €0.68)
