LONDON (ICIS news)--Dow Chemical has declared force majeure on caustic soda production at its facility at Schkopau, Germany, a company source confirmed on Tuesday.

“We have a force majeure on caustic soda production, with 70% allocation, which is linked to technical issues in Schkopau,” said a source from Dow.

The force majeure was reportedly announced on 2 October as technical issues with chlorine production at the site kept output rates down after planned maintenance work, sources said.

Chlorine is a by-product of caustic soda.

The maintenance work started at the end of July and was initially planned to take around one month to complete.

However, the restart was delayed due to technical issues, and a source confirmed that the facility was running at reduced rates from mid-September onward.

The plant has a nameplate capacity of 240,000 tonnes/year of caustic soda, according to the ICIS plants and projects database.
