US Coskata starts up flexible feed cellulosic ethanol plant

HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US biofuels maker Coskata has started operating a cellulosic ethanol plant, which can run on feedstocks ranging from wood biomass to agriculture and construction wastes, the company said on Thursday.

Coskata said the plant in Madison, Pennsylvania, is a semi-commercial unit that could be directly scaled to a 50m-100m gal/year (189m-379m litre/year) facility.

Part of the ethanol produced at the facility was delivered to General Motors for testing, the company said.

Coskata said its plant in Madison uses technology that can reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by as much as 96% over gasoline.
