Dow Corning sets up Mideast operationLONDON (ICIS news)--Dow Corning has established a Middle East headquarters and commercial operation in Manama, Bahrain, to provide the region's construction, textiles, petrochemical and oil and gas industries with silicon-based materials and solutions, the US-based producer said on Thursday.

The company said it expected to employ as many as 20 workers, including silicon-based chemists and sales professionals, within the next year.

"The Middle East is growing rapidly and quickly diversifying its business footprint," said Stephanie Burns, Dow Corning's chairman, president and CEO.

Burns said Dow Corning had seen Manama's growing impact on the global economy, adding that it was now better positioned to share the companies’ silicon-based materials and technology to help the region continue to grow and compete over the long-term.

Dow Corning's silicone construction materials are currently being used in the construction of the world's tallest building, the Burj Dubai in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Jean-Paul Mollie, Dow Corning's president, for the Middle East, South Asia and Africa, said the company was seeking collaboration opportunities in the region with academic, government and other research organisations, focused on innovating products and process to make them more efficient and environmentally sustainable.
