HOUSTON (ICIS news)--US tyre maker Goodyear will close its retread tyre materials plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, by the end of the year, resulting in the layoff of 90 employees, the company said on Monday.

The plant produces retread materials for commercial truck tyres and aviation tyres.

Operations of the Spartanburg plant will be consolidated into Goodyear’s facilities in Social Circle, Georgia, and Buffalo, New York.

Some employees may be offered jobs at other Goodyear locations, but most would be laid off in the closure, Goodyear manager of manufacturing communications Amy Brei said.
