SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Saudi Arabia’s Al-Waha Petrochemical has started commercial production at its 450,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant in Al Jubail, a company spokesman said on Tuesday.

The 450,000 tonne/year plant is the world’s largest PP unit using LyondellBasell’s Spherizone technology, the spokesman said. Al-Waha is a 75:25  joint venture between Sahara Petrochemical Co  and LyondellBasell

“By joining forces, we have developed a world-class complex with integrated Middle East-advantaged production costs and a highly competitive mix of PP products  in close proximity to our target markets of  Saudi Arabia, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East,” said Omar Bahobail, president of Al-Waha.

The plant sources propylene feedstock from Al Waha’s 450,000 tonne/year propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit, located at the same complex.
